Journal de la corvette la Favorite…. Manuscript journal in two volumes written by Jules Joseph de Mieulle, Lieutenant on Laplace’s voyage around the world on the Corvette La Favorite of 1829 to 1832.

Laplace’s prime objective was to re-establish French influence in Indo-China, to ‘show the flag in the area’. He was also asked to gather information that may be of use to merchants, such as customs, harbour regulations, conditions of entry and market information. Laplace departed Toulon with a crew of 177 aboard La Favorite. Laplace visited Hobart in July 1831 and arrived in Sydney on 16 August, before leaving for New Zealand on 21 September 1831.

This journal records de Mieulle’s observations each day during the voyage including la Favourite’s arrival and stay in both Hobart and Sydney.
